Mikindani Bay and Mnazi Bay on the south-eastern coast of Tanzania are the locations for some of the most spectacular, exciting and un-discovered diving in East Africa. Here the Southern Equatorial Current meets the African coast bringing a wealth of marine life from across the Indian Ocean. This unique phenomenon means the area is now recognised as the centre of biological diversity for the East African Coast and in June 2000 Mnazi Bay and the Ruvuma mangrove delta to the south was declared Tanzania’s newest national marine park.
eco2 is the first SCUBA diving operation and marine research and education centre in the region and is based in Mikindani Town. The centre aims to provide low-impact, eco-aware SCUBA diving and dive safaris and promote marine environmental education through applied research. |
The centre is fully dive equipped and operates a fitted fibreglass dive boat (with freshwater shower to rinse camera and film equipment), and a traditional African sailing mashua. The manager of the centre is a qualified marine biologist who has worked and researched in the region since 1995 and is a PADI dive instructor with over 15 years dive experience. The centre offers a variety of in-water activities and has a reputation for quality training of real divers. Simply think bespoke and personal rather than mass produced.
